Men were recorded thus:
1st class Men between 17 and 30, unmarried, no children living under 10 years
2nd class 30 - 50 years, unmarried, and no children under 10 years
3rd class 17 to 30 married, or 2 children under 10 years
4th class Remainder of men between 17 and 55 (ie unmarried men between 50 and 55; married men over 30; married men 17 - 30 with more than two children under 10
All these named are volunteers except one who is "not willing"
